Is this coaching for you?

This isn’t a course. It’s structured, personalised coaching built around your career situation — not someone else’s.

The Stuck Mid-Level BA

You’ve been a BA for 2, 3, maybe 4 years. You’re good at your job but you can’t seem to crack the next level. Every internal promotion goes to someone else, and you’re not sure what’s missing.

The Career Changer

You’re transitioning into business analysis from another field — IT, project management, operations — and you want guided, accountable support to land your first BA role, not just another online course to sit alone.

The Senior BA Moving Up

You’re eyeing a move into BA leadership, consulting, or contracting. You need a strategic plan for positioning yourself, building your profile, and making the transition without leaving money on the table.

The BA with a Big Opportunity Ahead

You have an important interview, a contract negotiation, or a promotion conversation coming up and you want specific, targeted coaching to prepare — not generic YouTube advice.

What We Work On Together

Every coaching engagement is different — but these are the four areas where clients see the biggest results.

1. Career Strategy & Roadmap

We start by getting clear on exactly where you are today and where you want to be in 12–24 months. Not a vague “I want to be more senior” — a specific target role, in a specific type of organisation, with a realistic salary or rate expectation. From there we build a roadmap: what skills you need, what experience to get, which certifications (if any) are worth your time, and a month-by-month plan to get there. Most BAs have never had this conversation with anyone. It’s the single most clarifying thing you can do for your career.

2. Skill Gap Analysis Using the BBAI Framework

The Better Business Analysis (BBAI) Framework maps every skill a modern BA needs — from requirements elicitation and stakeholder management through to data analysis, process modelling, and agile delivery. We use it as a diagnostic tool: you self-assess against each dimension, I review your work samples, and together we identify exactly where the gaps are. No guessing, no generic advice. You finish this process knowing precisely what to focus on — and what not to waste time on.

3. Portfolio & Resume Review

Your resume and portfolio are your marketing materials. I review them line by line — not to give you a grammar check, but to tell you what a NZ or Australian hiring manager actually thinks when they read it. What’s missing? What’s underselling you? Are you describing tasks or outcomes? Is the evidence specific and credible? I’ll also review your LinkedIn profile, any work samples you want to include in a portfolio, and any requirements documents or process maps you’ve produced. Concrete feedback on real documents — not theoretical advice.

4. Interview Preparation & Offer Negotiation

BA interviews are different from most interviews. Hiring managers want to hear how you think — how you handle ambiguity, how you manage difficult stakeholders, how you structure your analysis. We run full mock BA interview simulations using real questions from NZ and Australian employers. You answer, I give you immediate feedback, we refine your responses. When you’re ready to negotiate, I coach you on how to anchor salary or rate conversations, what to push back on, and how to evaluate contract terms — something most BAs have never been taught.

Hiring market expertise across govt and private sector

I’m not an ex-BA who now only coaches. I’m still doing the work — running workshops, delivering BA practice in NZ organisations, keeping up with what hiring managers in Wellington, Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne actually want. I’ve coached BAs who’ve moved into roles at NZ Government agencies, Deloitte, ANZ Bank, and Westpac. I know what separates the BAs who get the Senior or Lead role from the ones who keep getting passed over — and I can tell you specifically what’s in the way for you.

Why Coaching, Not Another Course?

If a course were going to unlock your next level, it would have done it already. Here’s what coaching offers that a course can’t.

Your situation, not generic advice

A course teaches you general frameworks. Coaching applies them to your actual career, your actual resume, your actual interview answers. The advice is specific because the conversation is specific.

Strategy, not just knowledge

Courses give you knowledge. Coaching gives you a plan. There’s a difference between knowing what a stakeholder register is and knowing exactly what to put on your resume to demonstrate you can lead stakeholder management at Senior BA level.

Real accountability

You can pause a course indefinitely and never lose sleep over it. With coaching, someone is checking in, expecting progress, reviewing your work. That accountability is often the thing that actually gets people to apply for the role, send the resume, or start the portfolio they’ve been putting off for 18 months.

Feedback on your real work

Most BAs have never had an expert review their actual resume, their actual requirements document, or their actual interview performance. Not in theory — their specific one. That honest, direct feedback is often what changes everything.

What Coaching Clients Say

I’d been a BA for four years and couldn’t crack senior level. Every performance review the feedback was vague — ‘you just need more experience.’ After three months with Benjamen I had a clear development plan, fixed my resume to actually show the senior-level work I was already doing, and landed a Senior BA role at Westpac. The coaching paid for itself within the first month of the new salary.

Mike T.

Senior BA, Auckland

I came from project management and had been trying to break into BA roles for eight months with no luck. Recruiters kept telling me I ‘didn’t have enough BA experience.’ Benjamen helped me reframe how I was presenting my existing experience, coached me through two interview rounds, and I landed a Business Analyst role at a Wellington government agency within six weeks of starting coaching.

Sarah K.

Business Analyst, Wellington

I was about to move into contracting and genuinely had no idea what to charge or how to negotiate. One session with Benjamen on rate setting and contract terms gave me more practical, specific guidance than anything I’d read online. I went into my first contracting conversation with confidence and landed the rate I wanted. Worth every cent.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do people typically coach for?

It varies a lot. Career changers trying to land their first BA role often need 3–4 months of focused coaching. Mid-level BAs working toward a promotion might coach for 4–6 months. Some clients achieve their goal in 2–3 months; others value the ongoing accountability and continue longer. There’s no minimum commitment — month-to-month means you can stop when you’ve achieved what you came for.

Is this for career changers or experienced BAs?

Both. The coaching approach is different depending on where you are. For career changers, we focus on building credibility quickly, framing transferable experience effectively, and navigating the “no BA experience” catch-22. For experienced BAs, we focus on strategy, positioning, and the subtle differences that separate senior-level BAs from mid-level ones. The discovery call is the right place to figure out which approach fits your situation.

Can I do coaching alongside the CBBA course?

Absolutely — and for many people this is the ideal combination. The CBBA course builds your structured knowledge of the BA discipline; coaching applies it to your career strategy, your specific job search, and your real deliverables. A lot of clients use coaching sessions to work through how the CBBA material applies to their current role or job search. They reinforce each other well.

What if I need to pause?

Life happens. If you need to take a month off due to work pressure, travel, or other commitments, just let me know before the billing date and we can pause without losing your spot. Coaching relationships tend to run over months, and I’d rather you pause and come back than feel pressured to continue when you’re not in a position to act on the coaching.

How is this different from mentoring?

Mentoring is typically informal, relationship-based, and unstructured — a senior person sharing experience as they see fit. Coaching is structured, goal-oriented, and built around your specific outcomes. We set objectives at the start, track progress, and measure results. I’m not just sharing stories from my career — I’m working with you on your specific deliverables, your specific interview, your specific career gap. The accountability and structure are the key difference.
